The technology was sold to Grenzebach after FAM had been taken over by Beumer and the FAM portfolio was reshaped.
Hammer Mill and Classifier – Centerpieces of the Calcination Process
The hammer mill plays a crucial role in the calcination process, which serves to remove the chemically combined water from the gypsum. The mill can handle particle sizes of 0 to 50 mm, and the feed material can be 100 percent moist FGD gypsum, 100 percent crushed natural gypsum or any mix of the two. With a throughput rate of up to 50 tonnes per hour, the hammer mill enables efficient and fast grinding, drying and calcination in a single step.
Sebastian Schuch, Sales Manager at Grenzebach, adds: “In addition to the hammer mill we have also acquired the technology of the dynamic classifier from FAM. The classifier separates the ground and calcined material into fine-grained finished product and coarse returns.” Both components are indispensable for a high-quality calcination process.
Strengthened Market Position
With its own calcining mill, the classifier, and the extended know-how Grenzebach strengthens its position as a leading supplier of solutions for the gypsum industry. “We are proud that we can now offer our customers the special hammer mill technology as a Grenzebach brand. Moreover, Grenzebach will continue to further develop the calcination technology in the coming years,” concludes Dennis Schattauer, Sales Director Building Materials Technology at Grenzebach. The focus in these activities will be on energy consumption, carbon reduction and the digitization of the process.
