Dust-tight Diverter from Vortex Valves

The apparent simplicity of Seal™ , the latest design by Vortex Valves, disguises the fact that it solves the most complex problems associated with gravity diverters.

In dry bulk solids handling, gravity or Flapper‚ diverters are notoriously prone to wear and leakage and are normally difficult to repair without complete removal from the line. Until now, production engineers have had to deal with these failings on a recurrent basis, with all the attendant frustration and downtime.

Design engineers at Vortex Valves studied each of the three problems in depth before finally developing a reliable solution. The result is a diverter evaluated with, and proven to handle, a wide range of dry bulk solids.

In a conventional gravity diverter falling product causes wear, particularly along leading edges of components directly in the flow. Seal Tite™ incorporates internal shoulders that ensure the leading edges of the flapper and seal come to rest out of the product flow.

The second typical problem is leakage of material under the flapper shaft, which causes product loss, or cross-contamination if different product streams are handled. Vortex Valves‚ solution is a live-loaded, hard polymer seal under the shaft, which completely eliminates leakage. The dust-tight seal means that even very fine powders, such as photocopier toner, are fully contained.

Both of these innovations make drastic reductions in maintenance requirements and production outages. However, when it is necessary to reach the moving parts in the Seal Tite™ Diverter the procedure is simple and easy. An access hatch allows removal of all the internal parts, including the flapper, shaft seals and bearings without taking the diverter body out of the line.

Available in a Y‚ double straight-leg, or three-leg configuration, the Seal Tite™ Diverter is also manufactured in a choice of carbon steel, or stainless steel.
