Posted in: , on 5. Oct. 2011 - 06:47

Dear sir ,

May i know is there any stardard procedure to dismantle all the belt buckets from the elevator.Remover should it be done at top side or bottom ? To prevent the buckets & belt falling backwards ! when its not balance .

Belt length : 149.78 meter

Belt width : 1450 mm

Total number of bucket : 345 buckets

Bucket Spacing : 400mm

Total number of belt ply : 5Ply

Belt surface hardness : 60 shore ±5

Belt strength : 2000 N /MM

High Bucket elevator Capacities : 1100 T/Hour

Dear sir ,

May i know the procedure to dismantle all buckets from a belt elevator. To prevent it from falling backward or forward.

Due to unbalance weight ! Which will be correct if we remove from the top side or bottom elevator opening ?

I will be appreciate if someone could help me on this for better understanding.

Its Backstop Season!

If you have left the backstop in place then you simply remove a bucket from conveniently near the top of the return (downgoing ) strand ( low enough to keep the hanging). Now the carrying side is heavier and hopefully held by the backstop. Remove a bucket from the carrying side. Your out of balance is one bucket mass andyou can handle this around the head pulley for one pitch and repeat.

Why are you dismantling the bucket elevator that you have so

kindly described and offered a picture of?

Is the belt cracked and stretched and tearing to the point it is

unable to maintain a true linear amount of travel?

As Louis has so kindly mentioned the backstop is your friend if the

bucket elevator has one installed.

If you could provide a few more images for the bucket elevator

That would be of great help to us to help you help us help you

with your dismantling of the bucket elevator as you need to provide

a better description with more photographs.

BEFORE ANY WORK IS ATTEMPTED!!!!!

You must be sure that the electrical power is disconnected and

locked out before any work is perfomed.

If and only if the bucket elevator has an electric motor with a

reduction gearbox arrangement at the head sprocket the removal

of the buckets will be simplified by simply spinning the coupler by

hand each time to position a bucket for its removal.

You should be using a two way radio to facilitate the movement of the belt

by one person who is moving the coupler by hand and the second is operating

the radio.

If the head sprocket is direct driven by an electric motor

and chain drive you will have to work on it in a different

manner entirely.

The other worry is the elevator bolts, nuts and washers.

If you intend to reuse them you will need a low

strength thread locker such as the Loctite blue threadlocker.

The original lock washers, if used will require replacement

as a matter of necessity for the proper reinstallation of the buckets.

If you are replacing the conveyor belt you can secure the new strand with a rope

from the top that is lowered to the other side and attached to a small electric cable

winch to pull the belt and buckets over the head pulley of the elevator and splicing

the new belt at the area where itis most easily accessable at the base of the elevator

OR by splicing the new belt to the old belt after the buckets are removed off the old

belting IF and only if the mounting holes for the buckets are pre-drilled and true.

No first hand experience, though using reasoning:

1. If you just replacing and not dismantling, removing an old one then replacing with a new one and then inching and repeat may be an option.

2. If you are dismantling, becareful if relying on the backstop that you will have sufficient T2 to prevent slippage throughout the process.

2a. Maybe removing buckets from both belt strands is an option (T2 should not be an issue then either)?

3. Is there an option to winch the belt out (c/w buckets) (i.e. winch attached to both ends?).
