HUNGARY CELEBRATES ITS FIRST HARBOUR MOBILE CRANE

In Hungarian waterway history the 22nd of September 2005 can be noted down as a historic date as the first harbour mobile crane was officially put in operation in the Göny? Harbour close to Gy?r.

Göny? Harbour – describing itself as the first gate and the last station on the waterway leading to the common Europe - is located almost exactly in between the North Sea and the Black Sea and could substantially benefit from the growing ecological as well as economic increase of importance of the Danube waterways within recent years.

Such development, substantially boosted by the recent entrance of Hungary into the European Union, demanded the search for alternative and efficient cargo handling equipment as Mr. Ákos Pintr, general manager of the port, explained in his welcome speech to an interested audience, amongst them the Hungarian Undersecretary of state for transport and economic affairs, Mr. Zsolt Horvth. He also pointed out that up to now it had always been necessary to rent sufficient cranage especially for the handling of heavy cargo.

With the purchase of a brand-new Liebherr LHM 150, Göny? Harbour is very confident that it will be capable to comply with the high expectations of various companies which have settled in the vicinity of Gy?r during recent years.

In fact Göny? has voted in favour of the worldwide most demanded harbour mobile crane in the range of up to 40 tonnes lifting capacity. From its intro-duction to the market in the late 90s already more than 50 units could be delivered to many customers all around the globe which highly value its outstanding versatility, unique manoeuvrability as well as its unbeaten price-performance-ratio.

To fully exploit the crane’s flexibility, Göny? Harbour opted for the adding of an 8 m motor grab which shall mainly be used for the handling of various bulk cargoes. Mid-term planning also foresees the handling of containers while the regular handling of steel coils up to 32 tonnes has already been confirmed.

Further add-ons to the crane’s scope of supply include an economy software programme for an optimised fuel consumption, a remote-controlled rotator, a data recorder inclusive of a telephone modem for data transfer, aircondition for the tower cabin as well as various further extras.

For the Liebherr group such order first of all means the entrance into a new territory which is very much predicted to bring up many opportunities with the recently gained unlimited access to the EU market. In addition to that it further strengthens Liebherr’s leading position as the dominant supplier of harbour mobile crane equipment for Danube harbours. After Vienna (Austria), Regenburg and Passau (both Germany) and Constanta (Romania) Gy?r is already the fifth harbour located on the Danube operating Liebherr harbour mobile cranes for their numerous handling requirements.

Tibor Mrekva, sales director of the Liebherr branch in Hungary expressed his gratitude for Göny? Harbour’s trust in the LHM range and assured Mr. Pintr of an outstanding service back-up which will certainly benefit from the optimum location of the Hungarian Liebherr office in Gy?r, just a few kilometres from the port. This led Mr. Pintr to the following conclusion in his honorary speech: “We are convinced that we have made a good choice and that the cooperation with the Liebherr company will as well satisfy all our customers in due course.”
