Tube But Not Belt

Posted on 28. Dec. 2012 - 08:58

Dear Shakee,

this is a machine where the bulk material is moved by the vibrational motion principle and the supporting element is commonly a U-shaped trough (with a cover), look at a vibroscreen and imagine it being set horizontally and the screen bottom being a plate. To be seen in bmh-life f.i. as a hopper discharge/feeder. It exists a derivation, where this trough is made from a tube or pipe section, hence the name. Which should not be mistaken for a tube or pipe BELT conveyor, which should better not vibrate.

I have used shaker pan conveyors in Saath Efrikan gold mines to carry reef out of the stopes at Doornfontein. As Roland says they are usually and preferably tough old steel troughs. Mine were about 5m long strips of modified sheet piling and chain suspended. A vibro unit underneath swings the pan and rock forwards and up so that the rock separates slighly and so it can be caught by the adjacent section of pan floor, on the next stroke. It resembled a shuffling operation and the frequency of vibration was slow, observable and mildly hypnotic when watched in the glow of caplamps.

Since the modules were connected in series for mining applications, constructing them as a tube would seem to complicate onward transfer: but I'm going back nearly 40 years and things, hopefully, do change.

Probably the frequency can be increased in appreciation of the abrasiveness of the burden.

Re: Vibrating Tube Conveyor - Principle?

Hello,

Oscillating and vibrating tube / trough conveyors are used in specific application. The oscillating conveyor will have eccentric disc to cause oscillation. Vibrating tube / trough conveyor can have vibrating mechanism electromagnetic or mechanical. In both the cases the material lying in tube / trough gets agitated (vibrating / jumping), and tube / trough being inclined the material moves down. Such conveyors will have limited length. Conveying length can be increased to some extent by placing conveyors in series. Refer manufacturer of equipment for information / leaflet.

I came across such conveyor to convey material near to a furnace mouth, where such conveyor was more suited as could be inferred from overall arrangement of the metallurgical plant.
