Rip Protection

Dear Mr. Narayanan Nalinakshan,

rip protection is based on rip detection --> if done by vulcanized-in detection loops --> these are an integral part of belt manufacturing --> so please contact renowned belt supplier and asking for their rip-detection proposals one may also ask for all further technical equipment to protect your belts.

Rip Protection And Rip Detection.

Posted on 16. Dec. 2011 - 08:29

Thank you Sir,

In between, failure of a deflector plate mounted inside the discharge chute of reclaimer ripped about 400 mtrs of steel cord belt.

For new installations we can think of going for belts with rip protection. In case of existing belt, both EP &Steel cord it becomes a difficult affair.Removal of all causes and detection of rip in time to minimise the damage is required.

We propose to install lifting magnet to remove scraps at strategical points and also fixing some device near the discharge chute

for early detection of rip.I really want to know if some one can suggest any other successful/better methods.

Rgds,

Narayanan.Nalinakshan

Most rips can be avoided with a proper chute design.

Belt Rip Protection Using Modern Chute Designs

Posted on 17. Dec. 2011 - 12:28

Further to my last comment, I am not aware of any belt rip that has occurred with one of our curved hood and spoon designs. We can mimic your tramp metal material mixed in the flow stream and classify the rip damage mechanism with the existing chute and then demonstrate a new chute will not allow the tramp metal to apply the necessary ripping force with our DEM code ROCKY. See our website for some flow images of rocks in chutes: http://www.conveyor-dynamics.com/rocky.htm Look at the examples and demos.

Use your imagination of tramp metal that can be added to this rocky flow stream. Since we can record all impact and shear reactions of the particle set, I claim we can show how a new chute design will virtually eliminate all future rips.
