Level & Pressure Monitoring & Safety Components

VHS - Membrane Pressure Relief Valves

VHS Pressure Relief Valves are the last safety net when abnormal pressure conditions endanger the silo structure. This is why sudden excess or suction pressure inside the silo must be dealt with instantly. Even though ideally a VHS Pressure Relief Valve should never have to go into action, it must be efficient and reliable if needed.

Description

VHS Pressure Relief Valves consist of a cylindrically shaped metal body with clamp connection spigot to the silo, an exhaust outlet spout for duct connection, an elastic diaphragm able to re-establish pressure balance instantaneously, a counterweight kit to keep the Valve closed under normal conditions, and a weather protection cover.

Function

For some time, tighter safety regulations in industrialized countries have ensured stricter enforcement of rules regarding the safeguarding of silos and bins against excess and negative pressure. There is no question that other countries will have to follow this example.

The counterweight-loaded VHS-type Pressure Relief Valve has one decisive advantage over the other type manufactured by WAM®, the VCP. Due to the moment of inertia of the helical springs on the VCP, pressure balance is re-established extremely quickly but not instantaneously.

The VHS, on the other hand, does the job in real time. Through an interplay of pressure on different surface areas on both sides of a diaphragm fitted inside the valve housing, perfect pressure balance is achieved. In the event of excess pressure this interaction enables air from inside the silo to flow back into the atmosphere; in case of suction pressure the air penetrates from the atmosphere into the silo.

Silo Safety Components

Posted on 24. Jan. 2010 - 11:41

Silo Safety Components

WAMGROUP associates TOREX® have developed a Silo Safety System that consists of various components. The system ensures problem-free plant operation especially during the silo filling procedure by tanker.

KCS - Silo Safety System

VHS Pressure Relief Valves are the last safety net when abnormal pressure conditions endanger the silo structure. This is why sudden excess or suction pressure inside the silo must be dealt with instantly. Even though ideally a VHS Pressure Relief Valve should never have to go into action, it must be efficient and reliable if needed.

Description

The KCS Silo Safety System for the safeguarding of silos consists of a central electronic monitoring and control unit which manages a series of silos and a component kit including, in the basic version one power panel for each silo, a silo pipe connection, a pinch valve, a tanker coupling with the filling pipe, a maximum level indicator, a differential pressure switch or electronic pressure meter, a pressure gauge for the venting filter, a pressure relief valve, and an audible alarm.

Function

The KCS Silo Safety System can be used for silos which are filled by tanker with powders or granular materials.

Damage to the silo or its accessories is most likely during the operation of filling from tankers. This is due to the risk of overfilling or excess pressurisation.

The KCS system, supplied in component form, prevents both overfilling and excess pressurisation, thus avoiding damage to the silo, to the venting filter or other accessories, and reducing the risk of dust emission into the atmosphere.

Pneumatic Conveying System Components

WAMGROUP have developed a comprehensive range of Pneumatic Conveying System Components.

TOREX® manufacture Blow-Through Rotary Valves (see Rotary Valves & Feeders), Diverter Valves, and Pinch Valves.

The Valve Division of WAM® offer innovative Pipe Elbows.

BLOBOY® - Pneumatic Conveying System for Dry Premixed Building Materials

Description

BLOBOY® is an independent pneumatic conveying system, suitable for conveying premixed building materials, stored inside gravity-fed silos to the mixer (or plaster sprayer) situated nearby in the application area. Once started up, the system can work independently, always ensuring supply of material to the mixer (plaster sprayer), limiting the labour necessary at the jobsite to the minimum thanks to the electric panel especially designed to power and interact with a level indicator fitted on the hood of the mixer (or plaster sprayer) hopper.

The system can work in complete autonomy and safety since it is provided with a pre-calibrated relief valve; this ensures the maximum pressure limit the system can reach, even in case of blocking of the conveyor system.

Function

The dry premixed material extracted from the silo fills the transporter unit. After the pressure relief valve has closed, the material is transferred by the air flow generated by the compressor into the mixing machine where water is added to produce wet mortar ready for use. The settable pressure switch controls the pressure inside the conveying line and cuts the conveying cycle in case of plugging. The safety valve always guarantees the safety of the operator.

EXTRABEND® - Anti-Wear Elbows

The objective of solving the problem of material wear in pneumatic conveying systems for powders and granular materials has been the engine that drove WAM® to develop a range of components that satisfy virtually all user requirements. Today WAM® offers Pipe Elbows that can be used for various industrial applications in which pneumatic conveying is an important issue, as in building, foods and plastics processing, to name but a few.

Description

EXTRABEND® is a short radius Pipe Elbow that is inserted as a link in pneumatic conveying ducts. The Pipe Elbow is a one-piece SINT® engineering polymer cast. Its special geometry enables the diversion of the conveyed material at minimum wear due to a dead zone at the point of diversion.

Function

The patented EXTRABEND® Pipe Elbow offers a substantially innovative geometry suitable to reduce wear during operation in all types of dilute phase pneumatic conveying systems.

The body cavity next to the point of diversion generates an internal material turbulence which protects the Elbow from wear caused by the material travelling through the duct.

Mixers, Blenders, Conditioners, Granulators

Since the early 1980s WAM® has been involved in mixing technology.

The mixers of the MAP® Division are made to measure from standardized modular components, aimed at the relevant task. The high quality of MAP® solutions originates from profound know-how in process technology, from individual tuning of the mixer components in compliance with the product, as well as from selection of specific materials in connection with the latest technology in manufacturing.

In 1998 the SINTSCREW® Division was the first manufacturer worldwide to introduce non-stick anti-wear SINT® engineering polymer composites developed at the Company's own R&D department for production of continuous dry premixed mortar mixers, leading the market towards a more efficient way of operating in this sector. The benefits found there were soon transferred to dust conditioners in other industries.

Today the SINTSCREW® Division offers a vast range of mixers and conditioners for different types of powders and applications: from dry premixed mortar or wall plasters to asphalt production, from foundry filter dust to porcelain in the ceramics industry, and in general, for all types of dust that allow moistening for recovery or disposal.

CPS - Screw Compactors

Description

GCP is a Screw Screen that consists of a screen basket, a conveyor screw, and a compaction section. GE is almost identical with GCP but misses the compaction section. It is suitable for applications where screenings may not or cannot be compacted.

Function

The process starts in the screen that holds back solids only. The internal part of the screen is continuously cleaned by brushes fixed on the outside diameter of the flighting. As the water runs through the screen the shaftless spiral conveys the solids up towards the compaction module where the material is further de-watered. Depending to the material properties, screenings can be reduced by more than 50% of their original volume.

SEPCOM® - Solids-Liquid Separator

Description

SEPCOM® is a machine composed by a feed device (feeding hopper or a compensator tank depending on whether the material is conveyed mechanically or pumped), a separator casing including a screw conveyor and a cylindrical screen, a compacted solid material outlet module and one or two separated liquid outlets. The drive unit and the basement complete the machine.

Function

SEPCOM® is a solids-liquid separating machine including a screw conveyor. Using both principles of separation, by gravity and by mechanical pressing, the machine is designed to separate the liquid phase from the solid phase in a wide range of substances such as sludge, sewage, manure, solids-liquid mixtures, vegetables, processing waste and others, where the percentage of liquid inside the solid may be considerably different.

The separated solid and liquid phases can be handled in an easier and cheaper way. In some sectors this can even become a source of income.

Solids-Liquid Separation Equipment

TSF - Combined Mechanical Effluent Pre-treatment Plants

Description

The first step in the treatment of any waste water, both municipal and industrial, is the mechanical treatment incorporating the elimination of gross solids as carried out by the TSF Mechanical Effluent Pre-treatment Plant: screening; separation and removal of fines; sand separation; removal of greasy floating matter. After the mechanical pre-treatment the waste water is ready for any further biological or mechanical processing.

Function

Waste water from the sewers flows through a pipe connection into the TSF Mechanical Effluent Pre-treatment Plant where the processes described above take place. After the pre-treatment the waste water proceeds to further treatment, whereas the de-watered solids are ready for disposal.
