Wear of Chutes and launders is a big issue. Natural rubber may be a solution. Does anybody has experience with natural rubber linings in basalt quarries? Basalt is sharp edged and in the beginning of processing/ crushing top sizes can be as big as 300 mm.

Thanks for advice in advance

Natural Rubber Wear Linings

Large sharp rocks and aggregates cut the surface of rubber linings; however, you might like to consider rubber tiles with ceramic cylinders moulded in to them. Such products offer impact, cutting and wear resistance.

Dear Mr. MMCT,

Too much wear of liners needs to examine :

1) Chute layout may not be ideal.

2) Liners type to be checked

3) Liners selection / particulars are influenced by chute layout, material mode of travel within the chute, velocity being allowed to acquire by material, and stone size in each case.

4) In case of steel liners; liners of work hardening characteristics will be more suited where severe impact cum abrasion is involved. Abrasion alone will need hard and abrasion resistant steel.

For a material like broken granite of the size you are mentioning, preferred situation would be to make the material flow on the material surface itself, by incorporating arrangement called stone boxes at various points along the flow line. If the chute is designed with these features, material will be flowing practically without abrasing the chute surface. However at this stage you may not be in a position to change the chute layout.

An immediate suggestion for you is to contact chute designers and liner manufacturers (steel as well as rubber), obtain their recommendations for your various chute arrangements, life of liners etc. Also, take in to consideration ease of maintenance, replacement, for the type you are choosing.

impact-wear problem in chutes with basalt in big size could be solved with the installation (on the chutes) of a special "super elastic" polyurethane lifter bars.

If you want to improve further the lifter bars lifetime must to install the lifters such as the basalt (middle size) remain near the lifters.

The slide abrasion,on this case, will be basalt on basalt.

So, with the polyurethane "super elastic" you can to prevent failures due to the impact and with the same feed material you can reduce the sliding abrasion.

The " super elastic" polyurethane could be compared with natural rubber excellent quality

The polyurethane thickness must be selected in relation to the maximum basalt feed size and height fall

Not hesitate to contact me for additional informations

The lowest cost route is to compound NR with coarse ceramic dust or fine Nylon powder or ground cured PU polymer.

We produce many chute liners with rubber with steel and ceramic etc have you tried any of this type of product? We would be happy to look at it for you.

Wouldn't Kalenborn be worth looking at? Their good old handbook seems to be out of print but there is some literature available from Abresist.
