The compressor type doesn't matter as much as the quality of the air it delivers. For cement dust especially, it should be free of oil and water.

A water trap and dessicant filter should be fitted just ahead of the bagfilter.

By the size of the equipment, a reciprocante compressor corresponds.

But you would have to add an air dryer to him; which could be:

Refrigerativo; if your room temperature is not smaller of 10ºC.

Absorption; if the room temperature is smaller of 10ºC.

The quality of the air, depends on the recommendations of your supplier of the equipment. ■

We are putting up a Dust collection unit comprising of bag filter & blower for cement dust. With a filtration area of 50 m2, the cleaning of the bags will be air impulse jet type. Envisaging an air reqmt of 20cfm @ 6 kg/cm2, what type of compressor will be suitable(rotary or reciprocating) & why.

Reciprocating compressors are cheaper but maintenance prone. Screw compressors are costlir but less maintenance prone. ■

Ingersol Rand makes a really neat package screw compressor and dryer which I have used for many dust collector applications.

I believe it's referred to as a TAD - Total Air Dryer package and has the dryer mounted right on the same skid as the compressor in a compact package.

Air receiver and all controls are included.

Others may offer the same type of package.
