Ceramic Lagging

There are several manufactures or suppliers. My personal experience is that Richwood ceramic tile lagging has been the best I've experienced. There may well be other products just as good.

Flexco and Rema also manufacture very good ceramic lagging which is similar to Richwood's style of ceramic lagging. Do not mistake Mikke or some other brands of lagging for these styles ceramic lagging. They may be manufactured of ceramic tiles but they do not have the ceramic nubs that press into the bottom cover of the belt. It is these nubs that provide the increased traction that ceramic lagging is known for.

did you hear something about germanbelt ceramic lagging ?

Multotec actually manufactures the ceramic tiles, and bonds them to the pulleys.

As for those nubs that make the lagging look like ostritch skin, I normally go for plain tiles, even on the drive pulleys.

I don't really like to design conveyors using higher than normal coefficients of friction. For one thing I don't need to, and also if the mine changes out a pulley and replaces it with one that has only rubber lagging, they could be in trouble

I actually agree you with Mr. Spriggs. I always told our sales force that ceramic lagging should be used as a last resort to cure a problem. You must first find out why the pulley is not turning and fix this problem. Is the cause belt or conveyor misalignment, overloading, worn pulleys, etc. Usually, fixing this will be much less expensive than installing ceramic lagging and you will end up with a properly operating system. Unfortunately, some people cannot or won't go through this exercise so the quick fix is ceramic lagging.

How can you fix problem if it is slipery, without installing ceramic lagging on the drum if the drum is already rubber lagged.

Hi Montana,

You should find out first WHY the slip occurs.

Do you have enough belt tension?

If you install ceramics and you donot have enough belt tension, you won't have much belt left. The ceramics will cut right trough the belt.

I work as inspector at EMO Rotterdam and we use 1600 and 1800 mm wide belts, run them at 4,5 m/sec and use for 99% rubber lagging.

We have some ceremic lagging and that is supplied by a German firm called TipTop. And with good result. 5000 t/h iron ore is no problem, but we did increse the tension.

If you get spillage between belt and drum, ceramics in not a good solution, it will break out.

for information about tiptop see: www.tsn.nl

Succes
