Slew Bearing Life of Stacker/Reclaimer

Posted in: , on 3. Feb. 2009 - 10:55

Dear Experts

I would like to know the maximum life of the Stacker cum Reclamer's slew bearing with normal operation condition while handling following materials.

1. Iron Ore lumps & Fines

2. pellets

3. Dolomite

4. Coke

5. Coal

6. Lime Stone

7. LD Slag

8. Sinter

Recently i had a bad experience that two of my stacker-reclamer slew bearings failed after serving for 11years

Secondly i would like to know the how to checkthe following

1. Tthe bearing Internal Clearance

2. what is the best time to procure the new bearing

3. When exactly i can replace the bearing

Presently i observe lot of sound(rubbing) when we slew the boom on either side.

Kindly advice.

regards

Material spectra should not affect slewing ring life.

For 1. you have to create access to the bearing & release the operating forces

For 2. after you have examined the supplier base and matched your life expectancy demand against the delivery time.

For 3. soon after you have bought the bearing & have confidence in the installation facility.

https://forum.bulk-online.com/showthread.php?t=6351 might be a good place to start looking. Plenty of background issues were addressed then.

Since your failures took place close together it appears that the operating conditions were right but the bearing rating was inadequate. The earlier thread suggested repositioning the ring & that might help. You will still need a jacking arrangement anyway so that must be your starting point. The jacking fixture is also necessary to accomplish item 1 of your question list.

Items 1 & 2 are rather interdependent & you must consider the remaining life expectancy of your machines as the prime factor. Another influence will be the availability of the specialist services (mentioned in the earlier thread) alongside the shipping/production schedule. You need to prepare your emergency reclaim equipment to cater for this outage.

Slewing ring delivery times used to be the governing factor in a stockyard machine design/quotation. Cranes have the major pull on the manufacturers & stockyard equipment is rightly shunted on to their sidelines because of the inconvenient nature of the enquiries. This present economic scenario facilitates large scale maintenance work.

Mr.RK,

From your post I understand you have replaced the bearings and now still you are hearing abnormal noise. Have you replaced on both the reclaimers?

I feel that 11 years life is less.

What was the reason for failure?

Are you doing grease analysis? It will give you good indication about bearing condition.

What happened to your long travel drive shafts shearing in reclaimer?

Is it in the same reclaimer? Has it been fresh or second hand reclaimer?

Please give your feedback.

Giving feed back will help others to learn or advise.

Sir,

We are about to replace the slew bearing (China make)of one of our stacker and main reason for the failure is greasing system coz the greasing system is positioned at such a place that spill or fine material acculumulated and breaks our grease lines resulting poor greasing.

Thanks for remembering. Please take photos sequentially and post them for better under standing.

What is the opinion of bearing's life as per the supplier? What is the guarantee he gives?
