Re: Shaftless Screw Feeder

A shaftless screw has no shaft to support the screw flighting so intermediate bearings cannot be used which may be a problem. No shaft means no material sticking in the corner between the flighting and shaft.

A screw with shaft supports the flighting better. In a feeder application the shaft may be stepped or tapered to give better hopper discharge from a long slot hopper.

JVI's vibratory feeders can actually replace screw feeders in many applications with difficult materials and save a bundle of money on maintenance. No replacement or wear parts on vibratory feeders by JVI.

The chutwork can be designed right into the package so it simply bolts onto the hopper outlet. It regulates flow for most materials as well as screw feeders and rotary air locks, and in many cases does an even better job with higher accuracy.

a shaftless screw conveyor will also be more flexible , allowing some degrre of curvature on the screw conveyor.

It depends on the size. Those I have dealt with are certainly not "flexible" in any way.

you are right , but all is relative . large augers will allow only large Rdii, small augers will allow small radii.

Some smal augers "so call flexible" are escentially a spring inside a flexible pipe .
