Material Flow From Silo Or Hopper

I dont have full information of the system you are talking about. But one of the way is to have weighing system on the silo or hopper. and then calculate loss of weight while discharging the material from the silo or hopper with respect to time.

Hello,

As said by earlier respondent, one method is to have load cells at the footing of the silo. The weight measurement reduction = The quantity of material which has flowed out. This quantity in conjunction with the measurement time interval will give you the average flow rate during that time. In this case, system may not be very sensitive for small time interval due to very large range of measurement and its accuracy with respect to small quantity. It may be like using truck weighing platform for measuring the weight of one person (when time interval is very small).

The other more accurate and common method is to have belt weigher on downline system. Its measurement can be used to know the quantity of the material which has flowed out.
