hiiiiiiiiii guys,

I need to know the process of transport of coal from wagons to track hopper arrangement in an power plant.

Is there any device used to open the doors of the wagons or it is manually done

It will be helpful for us to design the coal handling plant for our upcoming power project .

Dear Sridhar, Please note that now a days no manual loading is being done for unloading of coal and besides this Indian Railway also do not allow the same.

There are speical wagons which are fitted with bottom discharge arrangement pnuematically operated. If you need we can design the entire layout , tech.specification with costing from unloading pit to storage hopper.

Where does the coal originate?

If you are importing coal and system is for unloading imported coal through track hopper there is one solution based on wagons allotted to you.

If you are linked to an Indian colliery and are required to use high ash coal, your system is to be designed along with the loading system at colliery and type of wagons Indian Railways will allot you for movement of coal. Presently BOXN wagons are norm with side opening panels. They need to be opened manually.

Things are improving and you may be able to invest in and use BOBX wagons.

The engineering is best done along with engineering team of Indian Railways.

I think you'ed better to have a bucket wheel stacker/reclaimer to convey the coal. It will be efficient for your power project. you could know more from www.towercrane-cn.com.

There used to be firm in Saath Efrika, Robert Hudson, who made railcars which had cam operated bottom doors. Everyone who saw them thought they were quite brilliant. They would have had an over-centre locking system & when the train drove through the unloading point the cam forced the doors open.

The parent company was, in very recent times, based in Leeds, UK. They might be able to throw some light on the design principles. Or hopefully Robert Hudson Pty Ltd is alive & well in....somewhere near....Germiston, Saath Efrika.

In late fifties, I have seen Robert Hudson wagons in Cement plants in India for moving limestone fro quarries to the crusher hopper. They were small in size (15 T = then equal to capacity of a Euclid rear dump truck). But these have vanished after plants became bigger. These wagons were also manufactured in India.
