Juan

The last part of Chapter 3 and most of Chapter 4 of my "Pneumatic Conveying Design Guide" (Second Edition) published by Elsevier last year deal with the operation, control and design of blow tanks, for low and high pressure applications and for both powders and granular materials.

Thank you Dr.Mills, I shall try to obtain a copy of this.

Juan,

If you have time, you may also look up Section No. 7 on Blow Tanks in the book "Pneumatic Conveying of Solids" written by Marcus, Leung, Klinzing, and Rizk. They also cover this subject both qualitatively and analytically.

If your vessel is large enough & the operating pressure is sufficient then it must comply with the requirements of the applicable code of construction in the country of operation. ASME IIX is the favorite code.

Once your design satisfies the code then you can engage on the qualitative process of getting the powder out into the line. I say qualitative because in one of the later chapters (10 or 12) of the book mentioned elsewhere ( Marcus et al) it pointedly mentions that despite all the elaborate mathemtics surrounding pneumatic conveying it remains an empirical pursuit. I tactlessly left the book in Ras al Khaimah to reduce my excess baggage.
