Is there a successful metal detection system for use when filling bulk bags with food products. A number of suppliers do not want to guarantee performance. Need to find stainless steel of particles 2mm and above. Fill rate 6000kg.hr

Bulk Bag Filling Metal Detectors

Posted on 27. Jul. 2006 - 02:30

Eriez designs and manufactures metal detectors for bulk bag applications and will guarantee sensitivities. However, more information is required for this application; specifically what the bulk density of the material being processed is. Additionally, is the product granular and free flowing or a powder, which is typically sluggish?

Moreover, sensitivities are in direct relation to the metal detector aperture being used. Accordingly at a bulk density of 40 pounds/cubic foot at a rate of 6000 kg. hr (with a free flowing product) will require a smaller diameter pipe than a product that had a lighter bulk density that is sluggish.

Additionally, all metal detectors require ample metal free area for installation. If there is not an ideal amount of vertical height a metal detector may have to be de-rated to account for this.

What's more, does the product contain any mineralization or fortification? Or is it moist or wet? If so, the product will be "conductive" and will inhibit the detectors performance.

Therefore, to guarantee performances, many variables must be taken into account. These include, rate, bulk density, product characteristics, pipe size and metal-free area.

Eriez application experts would survey the application first hand to review the aforementioned. Additionally, Eriez offers its customers access to the largest test lab in the industry where product test are conducted to conclusively determine product rates and characteristics.
