Solids handling specialist, Ajax Equipment, has been awarded a contract to supply four screw feeders to leading water chemicals company, Kemira Chemicals. The screw feeders will replace vibratory feeders at the company’s Bradford production facility.
Originally Kemira ordered one feeder as a replacement for a vibratory feeder, in order to assess how the screw performed conveying polyacrylamide granules. When the screw feeder’s performance exceeded that of the remaining vibratory feeders Kemira decided to replace all five with Ajax screw feeders.
The layout could be satisfied by four screw feeders that range in length from approximately seven to nine meters. The stainless steel screws all feature full bladed flights customised to provide reliable and positive transfer, with care taken to ensure the feeder’s hanger bearings do not present an obstacle to flow.

Ajax screw conveyors are suitable
for a wide range of applications
Steve Parkinson, Kemira Chemicals UK Ltd said “When the first screw conveyor began operating the difference in performance compared to the vibratory feeder was clear. We can now fill intermediate bulk containers more quickly and accurately. The introduction of the other Ajax’s screw feeders to the plant will further strengthen the production process through the new feeders’ efficiency and reliability”.
Previously Ajax has also supplied Kemira with six vertical screw blenders for the production of dry polyacrylamide at the Bradford plant.
