Vibration on Belt Conveyor with Swing Base

Posted in: , on 7. Jul. 2015 - 00:39

Dear All,

We have a problem with a belt conveyor that it's drive unit resting on a swing base. It's vibration increase to near 30 mm/s, after doing some maintenance activities like tightening the bolt or checking alignment or etc, vibration a little decreases then increase again. Vibration of motor is in axial direction of output shaft and vibration of gearbox is in axial of output shaft that is perpendicular with motor shaft. Recently swing base cracked in vertical direction. We couldn't find root cause of this vibration. have you ever had any experience like this?

Conv Drive Vibrations

Dear Jafar Mohammadi,

did you

- check the electric motor running alone?

- do you have a fluid coupling and if so, did you check it's alignment?

- Is there a brake disc or drum, and did you check it's runout / alignment?

- is there any oil leakage?

- did you check the elastic coupling at the fluid coupling (if there's one)

If there's a imbalance in the fast running part of the system, the resonance / vibration will find it's way and make the mechanical units move where movement is possible / free. Crack of support swing base may clearly be fatigue induced due to the vibrations, notably if near some stiffness or a footpoint of the gearbox or so.

Did you, prior to start of problems, change something in the setup? A brake disc or drum, a coupling?

Regards

R.

Would you please give us an sketch or photo from drive arrangement on the conveyor, which show crack point.

Dear Mr. Jafar Mohammadi,

would you be so kind as to reply to the answers on your posting in the bulk online forum, and perhaps add a feedback as to how you proceeded in this issue?

As you are not available on personal mail (forum), hopefully you read this.

Thank you,

Regards

Hello,

As you have said, the drive unit was not vibrating prior to the maintenance that has been done by you. So, some reasons for this occurrence could be as below, as per engineering logic.

1) Some item/s that have been attended by you may have remained loose or fitted improperly. Check and tighten them.

2) See that fitment between hollow shaft gear box and pulley shaft is proper, aligned and not loose; or else how the gear box can vibrate perpendicular to motor shaft (presuming that you have right angle bevel helical gear box).

3) The input coupling could be also cause for trouble. Check for its axial and radial alignment.

4) See that replaced component is not of wrong type (in case you have replaced any component, although chances of such error could be less).

5) Also have introspection whether you have correctly followed the maintenance instructions, measured tightening torque values, etc., in accordance with the maintenance manual of the equipment supplier (motor, gear box, couplings, etc.).
