Conveyor Pulley Stress Analysis

Posted on 12. Sep. 2010 - 06:32

Please search this forum for many postings on shell and end disk stress analysis. You will find a multitude of comments and references.

For one simple analysis, try O'Rourke. You must find the equivalent type of end disk shell feature. They are there.

You can purchase a copy of BELTSTAT, our conveyor design program. It has this built in the pulley end disk and shell stress analysis routine. The thickness is selected by the user based on industrial standards, until you exceed 200 mm shaft size at the hub. Beyond this size we do not recommend this simplified approach. We offer more advanced codes that can take the design to > 700 mm shaft size.

You can also purchase a FEA code to do the same. However, BELTSTAT is much less expensive. It has been tested on thousands of conveyors.

Lyle,

I notices your forum references.

Phil (CKIT) did not give employement references for the authors of PSTRESS V3.0 paper, Dr. Qiu and V. Sethi. They were both Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) employees. PSTRESS V3.0+ is a part of BELTSTAT code. Simple of complex PSHAFT or PSTRESS.

PSHAFT does straight non-tapered end disk and shell selections up to 100 mm metal thicknesses. Maximum recommended shaft size to 200 mm.

PSTRESS does straight and turbine end disk thicknesses, and shaft diameters to much greater sizes.

Sorry for the mispelling of Roark. It is not O'Rourke.

You can get the book on the subject from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roarks-Formu.../dp/0071210598

You can buy the xcel spreadsheet of the same from:

Interactive Roark's Formulas (Standalone):

Shell And End Disc Design

Can any one post the simple roark's formula which can be used for end disc design....and please let me know how to purchase beltstat software and the cost of it

And you have posted a reference "Helmuth Lange in his PhD thesis". I tried it but I cant find it. Can anybody suggest the way how to get it.

Thank you all for replying me.

Pulley 3-D Stress Analysis In Beltstat

A more much more advanced and accurate version of Helmet Lange pulley thesis is incorporated in BELTSTAT.

BELTSTAT includes 3-D metal triaxial stresses that result in Von Mises yield limits, and metal fatigue mean and alternating stress composition limits.

You can buy BELTSTAT in various flavors. The simplist version handles most conveyor configurations, I believe with up to 4 drives and about 100 data points around the conveyor. This will sell for ................................. $995.00 USD.

I say will, because we are releasing a new version V8.0 which has many upgrades beyond V7. It will also have our horizontal curve technology as an add-on.

You can buy Roark's book with all formulaes programmed.....$599.00 USD
