Bearings

Greetings from the "Frozen Eastern Wilderness",

forgive my question but are you actually refering to taper locks used on pulleys and bearings?

Both types of locking devices work equally well as long as they are installed properly using the tightening sequence for taper locks as reccommended by the manufacturer of the taper lock itself you will have no problems with it.

In the case of keyed bearing locks you should always drill a small hole in the keystock where the bearing lock is going to finally rest

to ensure the allen lock screw will not back out of the retainer by drilling a small hole this creates a taper in the bottom of the hole to allow the taper of the set screw to dig in-using blue lock tite on the set screw threads allows you to remove it later when the pulley or bearing fails- do not use the red locktite as you will never get it off unless you heat up the locking collars with a torch- it will also distort the pulley shaft as well and you do not want that to happen at all.

My other question is-what size is the shaft of the head pulley? 4 15/16 or 5 15/16? sorry I do not have my metric converter handy +

Shaft Size

is 4 and 5/16"

we historically use LOCKING TYPE COLLAR DODGE BEARINGS for head and tail pulleys. but, especially for heads as they are up high and more problem to replace.

we just switched to SEALMASTER type with 7 allen screws to tighten by a tightening or torque template. Well, our guys just tightened them..........no self respecting welder fitter uses a template to install a bearing you know........:>))

and guess what????????

A PROBLEM OCCURRED on a new conveyor where the head pulley actually slipped over and contacted the frame...NOT GOOD.

thankyou for your answer.........i appreciated it.
