Magnetizing Vibratory Conveyor

Posted in: , on 13. Dec. 2006 - 23:34

I need to catch steel pieces out of waste wood, conveyed on a vobratory trough conveyor. The conveyors stops every few minuts when the bin is full. A coleague suggested to magnetize the mild still trough, so metal debris will be trapped, then removed when the conveyor stops.

Anybody know how to magnetize a mild steel vibratory trough?

Magnetic Drum Pulley

hi,

if the material running on a belt conveyor, u can replce the head pulley with Magnetic Drum Pulley and which helps you separate the ferrite particles from wood. You can collect the wood and ferrite separately at the bottom of the conveyor.

A magnetic pulley will work well. If you don't have room for it, make a sloping plate under the shaker discharge and mount a plate magnet in it. The plate magnet will grab the ferrous but will restrict the material flow over it.

Have done this under grinders to catch broken teeth or cutters. Works well as long as the material flow is not heavy to the point where material can back up on the trapped ferrous.

Trough Conveyor

The conveyor is not belt! It is a vibratory trough type. The trough is made of mild steel, and I am looking for a way to magnetize the trough.

Below the vibratory trough conveyor you can place a Belt conveyor or you can fix the sheet / plate magnets on sides and botton of the metal trough conveyor. for we need to have the comlete details like, feed rate, width of the trough, angle of trough and tramp metal size etc....

pl. send us your complete querry to this mail mktg@emil.co.in

Obviously the best way would be to have the trough designed with Stainless Steel. But since you speak of the trough already existing and consisting of mild steel, then it is difficult to determine where a magnet should be placed. It is my experience that when magnets are placed underneath the trough, a substantial material build-up will ensue and can be very costly and time consuming. Is there an option to redesign?

1) at one position along the conveyor replace the mild steel with stainless steel or plastic or a combination of both.

2) at this position install a suspended magnet ( http://www.mastermagnets.com/content/view/64/lang,en/ ) or an overband magnet ( http://www.mastermagnets.com/content/view/61/lang,en/ )

Alternatively discharge the waste over a drum magnet ( http://www.mastermagnets.com/content/view/50/lang,en/ )

Buy permanent suspended magnet and hang it above the vibratory conveyor. It will collect the tramp material and you can clean it every day.

They also sell vibratory conveyors.
