DESIGN help please

our company built a twin 54" wide belt conveyor system on tracks .......XL.....nice rig. 2 54" about 20' long with 16" riser boards all along length but, a loading hopper on each about 38" high.

Runs fine except when hoppers are loaded right up......torque appears to be slightly INADEQUATE. customer is having to pry to wing pulley to HELP move........then boom she is off and running again.

we utilized the DODGE program to calculate the torque needed......but, incorrectly on the 16" deep aspect.....do we use the full 38" deep plug in number or is there a better way to figure all this?

your help much appreciated. sincerely GB

I agree with your thought george use the 38 inch depth figure of material as the

tail pulley is obviously flooded and has stalled the belt, are the pulleys lagged with ceramic lagging?

Are you using a hydraulic power pack to drive twin pumps to power the drive pulleys?

If you are using hydraulic drives please e-mail or phone me off the board to avoid taking up the board.

George

Take a look at the motor. If the LRT (Locked Rotor Torque) is not rated for at least 200% replace the motor with a 200% LRT motor of the same HP. Standard motors are typically much less than 200% and will prevent the motor from starting under load.

This will allow the motor to have a much higher torque value during the start up.

If the motor you are using doesn't have it then it would be going out in overload before the conveyor would move.

Good luck
