Chain Conveyor.

Posted in: , on 24. Apr. 2008 - 16:15

A small chain conveyor to convey stacks of sheets with following parameters .

- Each stack weighing around 6.0 metric tons.

- Size of stack : 3.1 M W x 1.1 M L x 0.5 M H .

- Conveyor Length : Around 3.5 M c/c .

- Conveyor Inclination : NIL.

- Speed : 5.0 M/Min .

- The stack will be smoothly placed on the conveyor by means of

fork-lift.

Should the width of conveyor slat be same as that of stack OR will a smaller slat width effectively work? (Can the stack be overhung on conveyor by 500-600 mm on both sides?)

What problems can be anticipated for overhung stack?

I will be thankful for any useful tips or guidelines .

Hi Baiju Joshi,

Engineering design is applied common sense. Let us reason together:

1 - Your pallet is 6 ton. Once it is set down it will take a lot to push it out of place.

2 - You are moving it at 83 mm/s - very slow.

3 - You only have to move the pallet from here to there - 3.5 m. that's like from this end of the room to the other side.

4 - The stack is 3.1 m wide. When it is lifted it overhangs the forks of the loader, no problem. It can do the same with your conveyor.

5 - What are the risks? Do a hazard and safety analysis. See www.cospire.com / Engineering Tips / Hazards - Check out the What If Analysis.

lenght of stack is o.5 m and conveyor length is 3.5m

loading on conveyor is by a fork lift - How do you intend to unload stacks from the conveyor?

If it is by forklift again - please look an alternative of using a rail mounted trollley to move the stack from Point A to Point B. The movement can be done by a small winch with rope layout meant for moving trolley in both directions.

Why don't you just employ someone to design a scheme for you ???

That why I posted it :-) ....

....and also to remind everyone that some people seek to make a living using their knowledge to design equipment and systems that others can't do. Why should they give away their knowledge and experience for nothing?

So that is your business. Reminding People. And I thought you were a designer.

Hi Baiju Joshi,

We all enjoy a bit of lighthearted banter from time to time. This is an engineering forum, not an open marketplace for competing consultants.

If you want professional engineers to sent you a CV and their schedule of fees, then post your email address. Such details are personal, and should be kept off-line.

You didn't answer the question "do you want my consultancy rates".

A simple yes or no will do, no commitment on either side. :-)

Dear John,

You are correct. This is an engineering forum,

Advice or details of experiences of users of the forum increase the knowledge base of users.

Code of ethics for professions says that they do not solicitate their business. You may across their (of engineering consultants) presence in such forums.

Exchanges of experience is a two way street, those who ask should also answer. There's nothing wrong is offering your services which may be "hardware" (equipment etc) or "software" (design/consultancy) nobody is obliged to accept them. We're all "big boys" in this forum.
