Re: Eye Bolts For Lifting On Large Snl Plummer Blocks
Dear Jonathan,
look at:
http://www.eye-bolts.co.uk/din-580-eyebolts.asp
SWL is limited by the bolt thread size and the material strength of both bolt and parent material (F.i. cast iron from an e-motor housing).
Take care

If you're using SKF parts have you asked SKF?

Eye Bolts
The eye bolts are for the bearing housings only.
I would not want to lift pulleys with those bearings and housings attached as you have a huge amount of wieght with the bearings, shaft, taper locks, keys, and lagging. ■
Re: Eye Bolts For Lifting On Large Snl Plummer Blocks
FAG reccomend bearing / housing only.
http://www.santiniketanenterprises.c...47housings.pdf
Couldn't locate similar for SKF, though assume it would be similar.
Even it did have a suitable rated capacity, there are other issues (seal damage etc - maybe not such a problem when pulling things out, though maybe so, when installing new units).
Consider slinging around the shaft in lieu?

Re: Eye Bolts For Lifting On Large Snl Plummer Blocks
Hi there, as the eye bolt in the housing is a Dynamo type you shouldn't use it for anything else appart from the installation of the bearing. A dynamo eye bolt is a one use item and should be cut up/removed once used. RUD bolts would be ideal items for what you are wanting. Or you could just weld a couple of 16mmdia 8.8 set screws to a 20mm Form G washer :-) ■
Skf
You may go www.skf.com --> online catalogues --> bearing housings --> large SNL plummer block housings. In the load carrying ability subfolder all given loads are as of centre bearing, not from the eye bolts. That, and as the block housing is not stamped with a WLL mean that the eye bolts OR the plummer block as such are no general lifting appliance! The eye bolts are but a feature for controlled handling of the plummer block as such. Lifting pulleys = NO GO.
I would strongly disapprove upon calculating theoretical values of load bearing capacity or even looking up the eye bolts nominal LBC and use that as permitted lifting capacity. Surely in your op. handbook or so the pl. block is not described with a secondary feature as crane hook replacement.

R.
On second thought: Housings are often of cast iron. You know what happens, if such material undergoes sudden load changes ("as in Hooooook Up!")? ■

With regards to Large SNL Plummer Blocks , are there set SWL/WLL for the Eye Bolts on the Plummer Blocks? ( i.e could they be used to lift pulleys )
