Behaviour Iron Ore in bulk

Posted in: , on 21. Aug. 2005 - 20:46

I have Iron ore in bulk MBR pellet feed fine 18,2 ft3 per long ton.

Is there any risk or special consideration if handled to be shipped/lighten? I just do not know the chemical compounds of Iron ore so I would like to know if any special measure has to be taken if handled in port/at sea.

tks

Is this lump ore, or process concentrate? Pelletized ore is handled regularly on the Great Lakes, with no special precautions.

Dear Mr. Alejendro,

If you are taking about fired pellet, I do not think any problem in transportation in ship. All Golf country are receiving the pellet by ship only without any special care.

I think you are taking about DRI. Yes, you have to take care.

just consider the dust .

and the load distribution on the ship holds.

it behaves

Like any other dusty heavy product .

if it falls to the ground and you are in Australia , and it rains , you are in trouble .

the water turns red

taconite is considered a pollutant in some places .

If you are in mexico , no problem , chances are the water is alrredy polluted in an industrial port.

Dear Mr. Acortes,

Please avoid a possible degradation of the pellets during the transfer from belt to the bottom of the ship, if the transfer is too high.

Load distribution, already citted in the forum is also important.

So, if possible talk about this theme with a ship operator and please inform us about some particularity.

I am also curious about the point of views of the ship operators.

Dear Mr. Flores,

I hope for the future that the legislation will be obeyed also in Brazil and in Mexico, as it is in the more developed countries.

I guess, in Brazil we have also a good legislation, wich is not always obeyed as it should be.

What about Mexico?

Legislation

Posted on 9. Apr. 2007 - 05:18

Legislation in Mexico, at least environmental legislation, is rarely applied the way it is written.

Corruption is common and kick-backs or bribes frequent. This has been a tradition in Mexico for centuries. Laws are applied and people are blamed when the newspapers find out or there is a scandal, then everybody is upset and there is an uproar. Nobody knew why this "evil" company was violating the law!

But the law is written in such a general way that it could be read in different ways. Things are changing, slowly, but they are changing.

At the moment the lubrication of the system is still the way to go, if you want to get things done. Otherwise, there is foot-dragging and any business you need to do with the government can take forever.
