New Sweco SentryScan™ Monitors Screen Performance

Florence, KY– Sweco recently announced the development of the Sweco SentryScan™, a patent pending warning system that notifies operators of poor screen performance by using microwaves to detect most breaks, holes or tears in a separator’s wire-mesh screens. This early warning enables processors to avoid the costs associated with reprocessing off-spec product, contamination of downstream equipment and product recalls.

According to Mike Timmerman, Senior Product Engineer at Sweco “The SentryScan notifies processing technicians when a defect appears in a processor’s screen. This allows timely replacement of the screen, preventing the need to recycle batches of material.“

The SentryScan device emits a proprietary low power microwave signal which is blocked by woven metal screen mesh. When a tear occurs in a screen, the receiving module detects signal changes and triggers an alert signal. The operator has a choice of signal outputs at the (provided) local control panel: warning light, audible alarm, or remote signal output to central process control system.

Sweco SentryScan systems can be configured to monitor one or more screen decks in Sweco separators. The transmitter and receiver modules are ruggedly built units with PTFE ( food grade fluoropolymer ) wetted surfaces. Installation requires only the modification of the frame stack to accommodate the installation of standard tri-clamp fittings.

With more than 60 years of separation technology experience, Sweco serves the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, paper and many other industries with a complete line of separation, sizing and milling equipment.
