SCHADE: Conversion projects worldwide

Strong demand for upgrades of existing machinery

SCHADE Lagertechnik GmbH as worldwide leading manufac-turer of equipment for bulk material stockyards and blending beds for all important industries is on its way to the top also in the field of service. The company from Herne, Germany belonging to the AUMUND Group is consequently enlarging the existing range of offered services. Especially, in the field of conversions, SCHADE wishes to secure growing market shares. In Argentina ( Amali) , the United Arabian Emirates ( Fujairah ), in Australia ( German Creek and Curragh ) and even in the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea the SCHADE engineers demonstrated, how existing plants can be improved by means of appropriate know-how.

In Fujairah the reclaiming capacity of the existing bridge scraper of a competitor was increased from 280 t/h to 400 t/h. At the same time, the storage capacity of the existing silo was extended from 36,000 to 43,000 t. In Amali, the SCHADE service achieved an increase in the reclaiming capacity from 450 to 750 t/h of a third-party product. In the Australian Curragh and German Creek, the SCHADE engineers carried out an upgrade of the existing SCHADE bridge scrapers from 1,200 to 1,800 t/h each.

In the North Korean town of Sangwon the cement works which has been operating for more than 20 years will be completely renewed. Here, SCHADE Lagertechnik GmbH received the order to increase the capacity and availability of the existing stockyard equipment.

At SCHADE, the classical conversion business has continuously grown in the past years as a result of implementing customer requirements. Since in the past only some individual customer orders were processed in this field, in 2004 the Herne company started to proactively engage itself in conversion projects. One of the first orders was an upgrade of a SCHADE circular storage in Taiwan from 200 to 400 t/h and the conversion of a double-rail cantilever scraper reclaimer from mechanical to hydraulical tension station. Subsequently, further conversions of SCHADE bridge-type scraper reclaimers followed in Australia achieving capacity increases from 1200 to 1800 t/h. Since the end of 2004 / early 2005, the volume of inquiries for the conversion of third-party products increased continuously. Corresponding projects were i.e. implemented in the United Arabian Emirates (Fujairah) and in Brazil (Acominas).

The worldwide established good reputation gained in the new plant business helped SCHADE to win these orders. The first bridge-type scraper reclaimer of SCHADE was installed in 1975 for homogenizing and reclaiming abrasive limestone with a capacity of 350 t/h. The scraper chain of this machine has achieved a service life of five years in 24-hour operation. A bridge-type scraper reclaimer of 50 m span for 1,125 t/h coal is a special construction, still in use in a German power plant. Apart from the fact that the scraper chain has reached a service life of more than 15 years, this machine offers the speciality to feed two parallel blending beds. This is possible by means of 90° slewable special bogies allowing displacement of the scraper reclaimer on rails at the stockpile end from one storage place to another, without requiring a sliding platform.

On the basis of these problem solutions, the SCHADE engineering specialists deliver today tailor-made designs for modernizations, conversions and upgrades for the increase in capacity or availability of existing plants. Thorough investigations are made before launching the conversion or modernization measures. It is the aim to optimize the existing plant area by improvement or exchange of equipment parts.

Apart from the field of conversion, SCHADE emphasizes local customer service and the spare parts business: Engineers from the domains of mechatronics, electrical engineering and automation with expert knowledge of all SCHADE products may be engaged at short notice from the headquarters in Germany. Experienced field service engineers offer full service for assembly and commissioning. These include the quality assurance for locally manufactured steel structures, the coordination of the site assembly, trial runs and commissioning as well as operator training and broad variety of technical support.

The SCHADE service includes all maintenance and assembly tasks as well as further supporting measures (such as e.g. seminars). In order to satisfy the customers’ high demands on technical service, the SCHADE team offers a worldwide inspection service on site. Even after decades, the company guarantees the availability of spare parts for all SCHADE machines ever produced.
