Capture Velocity

Hello,

Capture velocity is the necessary air velocity at any point upstream of the hood required to overcome opposing air currents, thereby capturing contaminated air.

Hood face velocity: velocity of air at the surface of hood.

1- Regarding to the above definitions, it seems it should be difference between capture velocity and hood face velocity, isn't it?

2- However when hoods are installed over closed volumes such as belt conveyor skirts, the capture velocity and hood face velocity will be the same, isn't it?

Capture Vs Face Velocity

Meanwhile ACGIH has recommendation for capture velocity, such as 1-2.5m/s for belt conveyors,

but it seems there isn't any for face velocity!

Do you have any recommendation for face velocity?

Dears,

What is your idea about 4 m/s or 5 m/s capture velocity or hood face velocity?
