Some of the best innovation occurs when business and academia put their collective minds together. That’s the inspiration behind the Kansas State University Bulk Solids Innovation Center in Salina, Kansas, which goes online this summer.
CST is proud to partner with K-State by donating a 60’ x 10’ welded carbon steel tank to the Center, which will serve as the centerpiece of its research and development efforts.
Faculty members and students from technology, engineering and agriculture programs will study the handling of bulk solids and partner with local businesses in research projects.
The $3.5 million facility is the only one of its kind in North America, and in addition to CST’s generous donation was funded by public and private money including a $1 million economic development grant.
The donated tank has an estimated working capacity of 3,420 cubic feet and meets standard design criteria - including load and pressure capacity and weight and discharge specifications.
“We’re pleased to help give K-State students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a real-life environment,” says Rick Wiedemann, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at CST Industries, Inc.“There’s a good chance they’ll be working with CST’s factory coated tanks in their careers so it’s great for them to start now.”
CST Storage, formerly Columbian TecTank is the world leader in factory-coated tanks for dry bulk and liquid applications in municipal, industrial and agricultural markets. CST’s OptiBond™ coating process guarantees easy maintenance, longer life and better life cycle costs.
