F=ma. The motor and motor side fluid coupling half will start without the load as the connecting vortices have not initially formed. The inertias to overcome in this phase are those of the motor and fluid coupling half. With the motor rotating at full speed and no load the vortices form and engage the conveyor load. For starting time in this case we must know the fluid couplings slip load then apply it against the remaining conveyor inertias and loads.

Starting Time of Fluid Couplings
Hi,
I have been looking into the calculation of start-up time of fluid couplings ands i am kind of at my wits end. As there are many factors that needs to be considered (Mass moment of inertias, oil filling level, motor....) I was wondering if there is any reliable method to approach the calculation.
Thanks ■
