You have to ensure that the material does not flow back. It is called Angle of repose. Belt scales can be installed up to this angle.

The steep angle conveyors are required where the angle of conveyor profile is greater than surcharge angle ( otherwise known as dynamic repose angle ). Angle of repose is measured where the material is stationary usually at the storage yard.
And surcharge angle is less than angle of repose.
