Standards for Purchasing Crushers

Posted in: , on 19. Apr. 2009 - 15:22

Hi dear friends.

I want to know is it necessary to mention the contractor standard of crusher design while purchasing crushers?

for example when we want to purchase a belt conveyor we mention that the calculations shall be according to CEMA 2007.

Is there any standard for crushers?

We prefer using American standards.

The short answer is no, which is unfortunately not what you want to hear I am certain. It all depends on what type of "Crusher" you are intending on purchasing as well.

My best suggestion is to dissect the Crusher into its components and reference standards for each component. Maybe start with ISO900x manufacturing standard, and then go to the AGMA standard for the type of gearing that is utilized and so on...

Now Ya Cema; Now Ya Don't!

Once again: No.

It is impossible to regulate the feed to a crusher so how can it be held to account against a published Standard?

Trevor mentions the ISO 9000 stuff & this is about your only enforcible recourse. Whatever use that might be at the end of the day. Mining, rock breaking & muck shifting are businesses which still run according to the principles of claim jumpers & get rich quick merchants, essentially none at all. Perhaps that's why we like it.

By the way CEMA, itself alone, is a manufacturing organisation & as such can only make recommendations.

"Its purpose is to promote, among its members and the industry, standardization of design manufacture and application on a voluntary basis and in such manner as will not impede development of conveying machinery and component parts or lessen competition." a quote from the CEMA website.

"Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials (CEMA Belt Book - Not a Standard)

• The information … is intended to cover basic principles of belt conveyor design and includes such formulas, tables, charts, and recommendations as are required to design most belt conveyors. Experienced conveyor engineers can use the information and engineering principles to design virtually any width, length, configuration, and capacity of bulk materials handling belt conveyor and predict its performance within an acceptable range." Another quote from the same website.

Beware of Standards generally. A lot of the emerging standards organisations are simply local job creation schemes which produce copious introductory references to local organistations who have to justify a government grant, then alter the text of an established standard and later refer to that established standard when the going gets tough. Finally they throw in a disclaimer clause which results in the enthusiastic purchaser wondering what he has paid for.

Greetings and salutations Babak,

the key is simply this; Title 30 of the united states code regulating surface and underground mining machinery which is what you are asking for.

As far as American standards are you referring to the metric versus inch as far as

crusher dies and gate opening sizes for particle size?

In many cases a crusher is purchased that and found to be too small and worked to hard depending on flow and desired product size.

the next larger tonnage per hour size is always a good purchase as the crusher will not labor under the designed flow rate and depending upon the material will last longer between changing parts and wear parts

Anything built on this side of the Atlantic pond is subject to MSHA standards as far as machinery and motor guards, and electrical compliance per the national electrical

the same rules apply to self propelled crushers and trailer mounted units powered by a power take off unit with a diesel powered engine or powered with generators and electric motors. the European standards for safety are nearly identical.

Step back and look at your raw material and then the desired end product and then proceed.

material hardness is the first page of the book you will be investigating and then common methods of breakage, then deciding top pick one type and investigate further to the conclusion being the end product desired.

A machines warranty and service after the sale is just as important tp you

anything built to ISO standards uses material that conform to those standards and having been certified to those standards

=========================================================

Then visit www.MSHA.gov to visit the regulatory end for an idea of how crushers are regulated with current laws in the mining industry.

A crusher of any kind built here is either regulated by MSHA or OSHA pertaining to safety standards involving a crushers design and control systems

In the united states; the laws are just as stringent on european builders of crushing equipment as they are upon american systems are sold there as well
