Hello Everyone,

My name is Nathan Staab, and I am a marketing student at Kent State University. I have a class project in which I need to research the Test Sieve Industry. The main question I have is what "job titles" actually perform the sieve testing. I understand that there are many different industries that utilize sieve testing but any information to help out would be useful! I plan on calling companies to talk with some people that perform sieve tests and it would really help if I had a job title I could refer to instead of "Hey can I talk to the person who does sieve testing." Any information anyone could give me would be extremely appreciated as I have had difficulty finding contacts for this.

Also, if anyone would be willing to talk to me more in-depth about their experience with test sieves, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

The user title would definitely vary from location to location. Where I worked at a salt mine the tests were performed by our lab technician. Typically they perform what is a called a sieve analysis to determine the particle size distribution of their product. The size and type of sieve used is determined by the typical particle size of the product to be analysed. Sieves are stacked together and a pre-weighed representative product sample is placed on the top sieve. This stack is then placed in a sieve shaker for a specific length of time. Each sieve is then separated and the product remaining on each sieve is removed and weighed individually. The end result is a percentage retained on each sieve.

One of your best sources of information would be to visit http://www.wstyler.com/html/testsieves.html and gather as much information from them as possible.

Also there is no problem asking a company "Can you connect me to the person who does your Sieve Analysis?". The person answering the phone only wants to know how to direct your call. I used to get calls forwarded to me all the time from people asking "Can I speak to someone in Engineering?"

Good luck.

Thank you, Gary for the information!

For anyone who uses test sieves and thinks they could be a source of information we actually put together a quick questionnaire.

We tried to make it short so that it will only take you a few minutes to complete.

Test Sieves Questionnaire

Thank you!
