Custom Erection Process Developed

GARDENA, CA Feb. 27, 2007 – Temcor, the world’s largest Aluminum Dome builder, is making the final preparations for construction of a 297’ diameter Temcor Aluminum Dome for clinker storage. The dome is being built as part of a major expansion at Riverside Cement’s Oro Grande, California Cement Plant.

The planned storage facility will be using an Aumund clinker reclaim system called the MOLE. This new technology allows for maximum use of the storage area because the reclaim MOLE is completely buried. The storage area is filled via a stacking tube in the center of the facility through which the clinker enters.

Temcor will use the stacking tube for erection of the dome instead of its normal center tower erection system. Temcor will secure winches to the top of the stacking tube, then use lift lines to hoist or raise the dome higher as each ring is assembled from the center to the 297’ diameter outer support wall.

The Temcor Aluminum Dome became the logical choice for the storage building because the design of the Aumund system is most effective within a circular building, and domes offer the greatest storage volume with the smallest footprint.

The Temcor Aluminum Dome will be attached to a 7’3” high concrete wall and has been designed with 12 skylights, two truck doors, a pedestrian door and an opening at the center top that will be sealed to the concrete stacking tube. The dome is also designed for operating temperatures up to 150º F above ambient to accommodate processed clinker temperature.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March and will be complete in just 12 weeks.
