Intership opts again for ease of operation with MacGREGOR bulk-handling systems

MacGREGOR’s Bulk Handling division will supply sets of self-loading and unloading cement-handling systems for a series of three 13,500 dwt cement carriers being built for Intership Navigation at Shandong Huanghai Shipyard in China

The MacGREGOR Group’s Bulk Handling division – part of Cargotec Corporation – has signed a further contract with Intership Navigation, Cyprus for a three-shipset series of self-loading and unloading cement handling-systems. The equipment will be installed on three 13,500 dwt cement carriers which are currently under construction for Intership at Shandong Huanghai Shipyard in China. Delivery of the systems is stretched out over a 12-month period starting in the summer of 2009.

Patrik Wiln, product and sales manager for division’s self-unloading systems, says that: “The Nordströms cement-handling system – comprising screw conveyors and blow pumps – has, over time, proven to be the preferred choice for many ship owners. Its easy operation, product quality and low power and maintenance requirements are the main factors for its success.

Intership Navigation wants a quality system with a proven track record for its new vessels and last year it ordered three sets of cement-handling systems from MacGREGOR. The company’s confidence in MacGREGOR’s equipment made it the natural choice for these additional three systems”.

The latest systems will comprise:

• 2 + 4 horizontal and vertical cement screw conveyors

• two pneumatic blow pump systems for pneumatic discharge to shore

• two transport air compressors of 670kW each

• a computerised control system, including starter motors

• supervisory services during installation and system commissioning.

They will have a loading capacity rated at 1,000 tph and an unloading capacity rated at 2 x 300 tph. Mr Wiln adds that: “The advantages of screw conveyor systems over more conventional ones are their low power consumption combined with high handling capacities. At the same time, they have excellent reliability, with many proven performance references.”
