Density Separation of Recycled Feed Streams

I have an interest in the use of solids in fluid suspensions to effect density separation of waste streams for the recovery of valuable components or the removal of contamination. Does anyone else have an interest or experience in the application of this technology?

We (in British Columbia) have been working on rock traps since 2002 (on and off) to remove scrap metal, tooling etc, from the waste stream, with a large amount of success, last week we just shipped our second sand trap, and will see how this one works...There is little knowledge in this field, but recently the value of biomass has increased and attitudes are changing, we are hoping to develop something, just with trial, error and feedback within a few months. I don't believe my customers are willing to pay much for this, so it will be available to anyone who is doing pneumatic conveying. I have worked in pneumatic conveying for the forest industry for 30 years, and believe it is the cleanest, safest way to convey biomass. We are bringing the horsepower down, and are reducing the wear as well, you just can not get any cleaner than keeping the dusty biomass in a pressure sealed pipe. Successful Rock/Scrap/Sand traps can help promote pneumatic conveying.

We developed a small machine for density separation using only air and vibration. It worked well on taking glass and stone out of composting materials. It really depends on how exact or inexact a separation you need. The technology was initially developed for dry separation of coal.

However in the wood chip business in the UK we generally use baths to separate wood from stone and other heavy contaminants.
