Vortex’s Quantum Series consists of traditional slide gates and diverters to shut off, meter, and divert dry bulk material in gravity flow or pneumatic (pressure or vacuum) conveying. Some of the industries that use Quantum valves include agriculture, chemical, coffee, dairy, foods, milling, pet food, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, plastics, rubber, textiles, tobacco and wood.

The Quantum Orifice Gate can control, shut-off, or meter material flow of non-abrasive to moderately abrasive powders, granules, or pellets. The Quantum Wye Line Diverter can divert or converge from any number of sources to multiple destinations in a vacuum or pneumatic conveying system. The diverter provides positive shutoff of air and material improving process efficiency, minimizes cross contamination, and eliminates material buildup beyond the closed port. The Quantum Gravity Vee Diverter is designed for material flow through both outlets simultaneously, one outlet at a time, or a complete shut-off of flow. The Gravity Vee Diverter is also capable of metering flow through either outlet port.
Vortex’s Titan Series slide gates and diverters are valves engineered for heavy duty material handling applications that pose additional abrasion or wear issues. This series also covers pneumatic conveying (pressure or vacuum) and gravity flow material handling. Some of the materials handled with Vortex Titan valves include alumina, bauxite, cement, clinker, coal, fly ash, frac sand, gravel, glass cullet, lime, limestone, metal powders, potash and sand.

The Titan TLD Diverter offers replaceable wear liners for added abrasion resistance and removable access panels for internal inspection, cleaning or maintenance. The Titan TSG Gate handles dry material in gravity flow applications where positive material shut-off and dust tight sealing is required. The Titan Aggregate Diverter has optional inlets, chute liners, and bucket liners that extend the life of the valve when handling abrasive materials.

One example of an engineered slide gate is a gate for an orange juice company designed with two 610mm roller gates that share a common frame, but the blades open independent of each other. Because of the acidic wear that citrus pulp can cause, the frame was constructed of 316L stainless steel and the air cylinders were epoxy coated.

Another customer contacted Vortex after their valves were becoming jammed due to the ingress of vapor coupled with the sticky gum pellets in their process equipment. Vortex designed an HDP Gate that was installed and reviewed before purchasing. The HDP was modified to include internal modifications and Teflon coating of selected components.

The Cross-Over Wye Line Diverter was designed for an application handling calcium carbonate in a pressure system. The customer needed added flexibility in switching material between different conveying lines.
