We have a fine dry powder stored in 2 cu ft bags that need to be emptied into outdoor pools at waste-water treatment plants. However wind makes this operation messy, blowing the powder around. The application is repetitive, so a permanently/fixed solution is preferred.

Is there a bag unloader that can be positioned outside ?

Good afternoon,

May I assume you are adding slaked hydrated lime to your

untreated wastewater entering the wet well or settling basins?

As you are using standard bags there is not much out there but

an easy solution follows forthwith;

1. scavenge or buy a surplus junked

motorised motar mixer and retrieve the

lid with the grate and the bag ripper w

which is in the center of the mixer.

2. the quick and the dead fix is this;

a. Buy a portable grain auger long enough

to reach into the basin with its spout with

a towing frame to maintain stability of the auger.

b.be sure to buy the plastic grain hopper that fits

on the bottom of the auger to eliminate spillage.

c. build a rectangular frame to fit the lid of the mortar

mixer and either hinge it or weld it to the frame;

when you build the frame decide how tall you want

it to be and then decide if you want to add a long enough

tapered bottom to dump the powder directly into the augers

hopper to avoid having the wind blow the powder while

adding chemicals to the basin.

a little measuring and welding and posssibly

finding a surplus mortar mixer on craigs list or

the shopper for the bag splitter and then ..................

Dust Free Bag Discharge

Ajax Equipment make a bag discharge unit that ihas to be closed before the bag is slit and the cut bag folded to empty the contents in sealed conditions. The operation is manual, with simple interlocks to ensure that the knife cannot be used with the lid open and the lid cannot be opened unless the knife is safely parked. It may then be practical to spray water into the receiving hopper to wash out the powder without dry exposure.
