There is nothing wrong with reverse-air and shaker cleaning baghouses, so long as they are well-designed and suit the application. They are a bit old-fashioned these days. In some markets they tend to be preferred for metallurgical processes and fine fumes.

Pulse-cleaning (compressed air) baghouses can handle most minerals applications, are generally cheaper and easier to maintain.

There are efficiency issues to be considered. Reverse air baghouses sometimes have to operate under positive pressure so a low efficiency, dust handling exhaust fan has to be used, as well as a reverse air fan for cleaning. Balance this against the cost of compressed air.

One sure and easy to improve both filter efficiency and increase filter bag life is to install the correct model of acoustic cleaner in the filter. By 'sounding' the acoustic cleaner for a few seconds at periodic intervals, not only is the filter material kept clean of fine particulate but also the hopper and inner filter walls are also continuously cleaned thus eliminating hopper blocking.
