Strategic Expansion of the Supply Chain and Business Scope

Zeppelin Silo- und Apparatetechnik GmbH in Friedrichshafen, Germany, has strengthened its position in the field as a leading supplier of systems for handling high-valued bulk solids.

Pending approval by the German trade commission, the Zeppelin management has announced the acquisition of Motan Materials Handling GmbH in Weingarten, Germany. Both companies will continue to serve their respective markets and clients as before. Ernst Susanek, Chairman and CEO of the Zeppelin-Group, welcomed "the continuous expansion of the product portofolio and the strategic expansion of the global Zeppelin network for bulk solids handling equipment”.

Up to now, Motan Materials Handling was a subsidiary of the Danish F.L. Smidth Holding, Copenhagen and generated last year with 56 employees revenues of approximately 20 mio €. Motan’s core competences are development, engineering and supply of components and conveying systems for the chemical, rubber and polymer industries. "For Motan, this is the unique opportunity to improve our international position through Zeppelin’s global network”, comments Motan’s President Rochus Hofmann.

Zeppelin Silo- und Appartetechnik GmbH supplies components, conveying systems and turnkey plants for the polymer producing industry as well as silos and components for the polymer processing and chemical industries. Zeppelin serves as a supplier of complete systems in this field with their service ranging from engineering via production to commissioning, with the most important components, i.e. silos, blenders, elutriators, rotary feeders and diverter valves, coming from in-house fabrication. This unique combination between engineering and production reduces interface coordination for the clients.

Zeppelin generated in 2003 with 416 employees and offices located in Friedrichshafen, Genk, Houston, Sao Paulo, Mumbai, Singapore and Beijing a sales volume of 71 mio €. Friedrichshafen serves as the center of competence for engineering, fabrication technology, quality services and development.

Jointly, Zeppelin and Motan now can use a wider component program for even more reliable system design. Through this acquisition, Zeppelin now is in the position to integrate powder and additive conveying systems into complete plants. The new team, enlarged by an additional staff of 56 experienced employees, now has grown in order to handle future projects of even bigger size . "The new acquisition does not only allow us to offer a wider scope to our clients, but through the additional engineering know-how also improves our position in the international business”, comments Peter Gerstmann, President and CEO of Zeppelin Silo- und Apparatetechnik GmbH.
