hi

i don't know but i'll ask a chemical question

how can disjoin sugar from salt if they where mixed up together?

Sugar And Salt Mix

I think what your telling me/forum is that table salt and table sugar were inadvertantly mixed together. We need more information or at least I do.

I am certainly no chemist but I have worked with salt for 27 years.

One test that might work if you are willing to sacrifice the sugar.

Sugar is made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. When heated hot enough the sugar will start to meltand then ignite burning off the hydrogen and oxygen leaving only the carbon. The salt is made of sodium and chloride and will melt at a much higher temperature and will not burn. Salt crystals will actually melt and fuse together again when cooled.

Put a bit of the mixture in a pan and heat the pan or place a burner of some kind under the pan until the sugar ignites. Be carefull the sparks will fly. (believe me I remember doing this when I was a kid and yes that was along time ago) This will leave you with a lot a carbon from the sugar. You can then dissolve the remainder and filter the carbon by pouring the dissolved mixture over a filter into another container. Then you would have to evaporate the water from the salt to recapture the salt crystals.

I have no scientific proof that this will work it is just from my wild imagination and knowing a little fact that sugar burns and salt does not. I hope you don't have alot of it.

This is a typical question that is asked at most high school chemistry classes. If this is your assignment then you need to do your own research. But glad we could help.

Good luck.

Salt And Sugar

very interesting. Good solution.

salt has a smaller molecule than sugar , amd melts at low temperature, is soluble in organic fluids that salt is not.

second solution dissolve the sugar in ether , then sepparate the fluid from the solids christals and the evaporate the ether. recover the sugar .

never tried it out but sounds scientific.
