Install Belt for Overland Conveyors

Posted in: , on 2. Jun. 2015 - 13:11

Hi

I am very interesting to know how to install overland conveyor belt , actually I am mechanical engineer we do design and fabrication small trough conveyors (recently we completed 120 M for conveying crush rubber (tyre crusshing) ) . we use end less conveyor belts , its very difficult to install it. I cannot imagine how to install steel coated rubber belts may be 10~12 Km long conveyors.

Dear Uditha:

it is very interesting of a so long conveyors as 10-12KM. Is there other way to transportation the crush rubber? I think it need some terminal for relaying.

Dear Friend,

Is it Steel cord belt. There are several installations with still longer belt. Installation is not a problem at all. Is the profile and selection of belt ready.

Please up load all details for suggestions by experienced members.

There are many threads hereabouts dealing with overland conveyor installation. Your question is general in the extreme.

If you had difficulty with a 120m machine you should study a lot more before considering a 12km unit.

"we use end less conveyor belts , its very difficult to install it." All belts should be endless unless you are talking about an eccentric pulley with spring return which is used for incrementing beer crates etc. (if it still is). I have to discount the possibility that you were talking about an autoclave cured belt because a monumental vessel would be required. Essentially, your question is too vague to be answered in any shape or form without specific details.

A reply which questions the availability of a single flight 12km conveyor is much akin to the original question.

===============================

Belt come to site on reels, if not endless construction. Typically, a 60 m long belt with 120 m loop would be sent to site in one 120 m roll plus splice allowance and take-up allowance. First, the old belt is cut, often at tail or Take-up depending on many features. Second the new belt is attached to old belt with a special attachment. The other end of old belt is then pulled by various devices - come-along, tractor, etc. either in cut-lengths or pulled for its full length until the new belt end comes to the other new end. There are intermediate details. Then the new ends are prepared and spliced to form the continuous loop.

For long overlands the sequence is different depending on spacing, equipment, et. a. However, the belt can also be pulled in one or two sections. First, many rolls can be attached/splices together and stacked in a number of piles, before pulling. Special care must be taken on the factory construction to be also aligned for field installation. Often, special installation pulleys are constructed to take belt from splice table, not aligned with conveyor centerline, and then pulled onto conveyor centerline via the special pulleys.

Much more can be said, but, does not suit the question.

Added Clarity On Endless Belt Installation

I failed to note the belt reel is typically delivered with two ends. From the factory, the belt is threaded onto a reel with one end at start of reel ID and other end finishing at reel OD.

Endless belts come in loops which for 60m belt would be extremely cumbersome to handle.

When installing a belt from reel with two ends you need enough space along the belt to install a splice station with its needed space for splice and alignment features.

Thanks Mr. John

yes its autoclave machine , its good practice for me , calculation ,design installation every thing .

my question is not for this conveyor , its overland conveyor single flight , we have no opportunity to study or learn this type long conveyors , there for asking you how to install the belt..

thanks Mr. Nordell

we have no oppurtunity to study / get experience this type of long conveyors ? how many size of crew members handle the this type of installation. for ex. 12KM X 1000mm width conveyor?

Manaskar,

About your inquiry with regard to an overland conveyor of this length

it would be of great value to you to purchase several text books and

manuals from the Conveyor Equipment Manufacturing Association and

attend one of the premier exhibitions on material handling and

transportation that are held annually.

Both surface and underground conveyors require a huge amount of

infrastructure with regard to the power supply and conveyor controls

and the expense involved not including spare parts.

do you know any good design / practical books for this ? yea I am planning to go see any bulk material handling exhibition in india
