Re: Steel Cord Belt Instead Of Ep Belt
Define have / ok.
Based on your calculated tension the proposed belt apparently is strong enough, though this does not mean that it is the most appropriate selection nor the best value for money.

What's The Question Again?

I hear, that we have to use Steel cord belt instead EP belt for conveyor longer than 100m ?
that's correct?
My Problem is:

8- Recommended Belt: EP 1000/5 ----> that's ok, or i have to use Steel cord belt

6- Lift Length: 30 m
Dear Mr.Mehdi Ohadi,
Is it a vertical conveyor with cleats & side wall?

Re: Steel Cord Belt Instead Of Ep Belt
Hello Mehdi
I don't get 99kN
I get far less, so an EP belt will be just fine
Also, the belt is not long enough to worry about long take-up requirements
Use EP.. its much easier to splice too.
Cheers

Re: Steel Cord Belt Instead Of Ep Belt
Hello Mehdi,
When to use EP belt or steel cord belt is a somewhat complex issue and it has technical, price and buyer’s preference issue. The main consideration is that if the conveyor is very long or the required belt rating is beyond the scope of the EP belt, then one has to use steel cord belt.
For example, if a conveyor is 1000 m long, then EP belt conveyor take-up stroke will be nearly 22.5 m (2.25% of c/c length). As against this, the steel cord belt take-up stroke will be 3 m (0.3% of c/c length). The take-up stroke values mentioned are “basic”, and one adds some margin for contingency during vulcanizing (contingency means required belt loop length versus the belt loop length created after vulcanizing). Such contingency, can also account for thermal variation, if need be.

Re: Steel Cord Belt Instead Of Ep Belt
I agree with above reply. 30 Meters lift in 240 Meters is quite high. Based on tension calculation - Steel Cord will be a safe alternative!
Steel Cord Vs. Fabric Belt Construction Selection
There are some fundamental criteria for making a selection of steel cord or fabric tensile member construction:
1. Steel cord construction tends to be less expensive, in capital cost terms, when the steel cord strength exceeds St-1000 N/mm, and in some cases even ST-800 N/mm.
2. Steel cord construction tends to consume less power than the necessary equivalent fabric strength for the same haulage specification, by 30% or more. This can augment the possible higher capital cost in the lower tension range.
3. Fabric is often chosen when the user is not comfortable with splicing steel cord belts or is faced with large repair necessities from load station damage or rock entrapment damage. Note, fabric construction can dissipate large impact forces with less tensile member damage. Repair of fabric rips and tears is less foreboding to mining operators than a steel cord belt construction.
4. Typical take-up travel for fabric belts is often overstated a close to 10 times a steel cord construction. This can be pared down to less than 4-6 times the necessary TUP length when you eliminate belt creep stretch (ironing out the fabric tensile inequalities). When the belt is first installed, a temporary splice is applied, the belt is then tensioned to facilitate fabric creep, then the excess is eliminated after the initial creep is completed along with the temporary splice.
The selected belt specifications seem way over the necessity. Thus, I agree with Mr. Spriggs. ■

Steel Cord Belt Instead of EP Belt
Thread: Steel Cord Belt Instead EP belt for Conveyor longer than 100m ?
Dear Sir
I hear, that we have to use Steel cord belt instead EP belt for conveyor longer than 100m ?
that's correct?
My Problem is:
1- Belt width 1000 mm
2- Capacity: 630 t/hr
3- Material: Sponge Iron (6-13 mm pellet)
4- Density: 1.8 t/m3
5- Conveyor Length: 240 m
6- Lift Length: 30 m
7- Max Force: 99 kN
8- Recommended Belt: EP 1000/5 ----> that's ok, or i have to use Steel cord belt
thanks in advance
