BARTEC BENKE Copes with All Tasks within the Agreed Time – The costumer was completely satisfied
A shutdown of chemical large-scale plants is required by law for safety reasons. The large-scale plants must be inspected and completely overhauled every five years. For this purpose, these plants must be shut down.
The scheduled plant shutdown of the Dow plant Böhlen constituted an extraordinary challenge for the BARTEC BENKE staff of the Böhlen branch.
Already in January 2003, the planning engineers of the measuring/control and analysis technology began with the preparations for this turnaround in co-operation with the Dow Shutdown-Team.
During the turnaround between the end of April and the mid of June 2004 the complete plant technology was safely shut down, the chemical plants cleaned, measuring systems inspected and re-calibrated, drives and their respective switchgear technically overhauled and maintained.
The most comprehensive inspection and maintenance program had to be implemented in the „Cracker“ main plant. Here, BARTEC BENKE was responsible for all electrical and measuring/control works. The analysis engineers inspected and optimised the analysis technology in all plant parts.
A special highlight were the works on and at the 147 m high flare at the Böhlen site. Dow replaced the entire flare head. The BARTEC BENKE engineering team installed the measuring systems and replaced the flight warning light.
Because of the final date, the maintenance and inspection works at the „complete demineralisation“ sub-plant represented a special challenge. This plant was the last to be shut down and the first to be re-started. A total of 56 electrical flaps were replaced, inspected and re-commissioned by experienced hands. This task was also tackled without any problems.
This shutdown represented a great challenge for all people involved. In spite of close deadlines and catchiest atmospheric conditions it was successfully completed. The Dow plant Böhlen is highly interested in continuing the good cooperation with BARTEC BENKE.
