Effective crusher load reduction by pre-screening with a

HAZEMAG Wobbler Feeder

Most raw materials that have to be pre-crushed for subsequent processing already contain a considerable percentage of fines which do not actually require further crushing. These fine fractions often have a fairly high moisture content as well as featuring abrasive inclusions. It goes without saying, therefore, that it is expedient to separate such fine fractions from the feed material flow prior to entry into the crusher. HAZEMAG Wobbler Feeders (FIG. 1) are particularly suited to this task.

The screening surfaces of this machine comprise a plurality of rotating shafts, between the defined gaps of which the fine material can pass. The discs are mounted on the shafts according to the desired granulometry of the separated material. The discs are of elliptical or triangular shape to promote the conveying process and reduce the possibility of material jamming. A two-part design with different level stages descending in the conveying direction (Fig. 2) provide for the agitation and loosening of the material, which contributes additionally to the separation effect of the wobbler feeder.

The drive is effected by a main shaft, from which the power is distributed to the individual shafts. Each shaft is connected to its neighbour by roller chain (Fig. 3), thereby achieving efficient synchronisation of the shafts. The chains run in a separate chain casing in an oil bath. Mounted on the opposite side of the wobbler feeder is the drive unit, an electric motor with coupling. The speed of the shafts varies between 8 and 32 rpm according to the required conveying rate. The drive is reversible and so enables potential material jamming problems to be eliminated by simply reversing the rotation direction. This process can be initiated by the provision of a torque limiter and can be automated with the appropriate programming. Rugged scrapers are fitted underneath the shafts for the removal of any material build-up. The side walls are lined with exchangeable wear plates.

Wobbler feeders are available for all primary crushers of up to 2,500 t/h capacity and material lumps of up to 2.5 m edge length. Most separation is effected at between 50 and 150 mm.

Fields of application:Limestone, Marl, Clay, Coal, Hard Rock, Minerals with sticky inclusions

Feed size:0 – 2,500 mm

Pre-screened product:50 – 150 mm

Capacity:up to 2,500 t/h

Advantages:

• Relieving the load on the crusher

• Reducing the wear and caking/clogging hazard in the crusher

• Unproblematic handling of sticky/clayey materials

• Higher operational safety and reduced costs of crushing plants

Depending on the amount of fines in the raw material, the use of a wobbler feeder can certainly influence the crusher size requirement. For example, in one particular case, the selected crusher was designed to handle 1,000 t/h, whereas the total plant throughput was 1,500 t/h. At any event, the use of a HAZEMAG Wobbler Feeder can reduce wear rates and caking problems in the crusher, since the wobbler feeder - due to its self-cleaning devices - can screen even sticky materials. In other words, a wobbler feeder can contribute greatly to reducing costs and increasing the operational safety of a crushing plant, and represents an interesting alternative to other, more orthodox, solutions.

Fig. 4 shows a very modern plant concept with a two-stage wobbler feeder between the apron feeder and the crusher. With this concept approx. 25 % of the feed material is removed by the pre-screening operation and by-passing the crusher.
