Difference between High chrome grinding media and forged ones
1, the hardness of core and surface for a forged ball is quite different, like the core hardness of 4'ich forged ball is only 48HRC, while for cast grinding media, only 2 degrees different between surface and core.
2, the microstructure for these two kind of grinding medias is quite different, the main working method of cast ball is Martensite and Carbide, only when the composition of Cr is >10%, the eutectic carbide turns to be (Fe,Cr)7C3, this steady triangle microstructure is great hard and tough, while none for normal forged ball, certainly, the price is lower than cast ones.
