you will find that info in CEMA book named Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials.

Standards: Why, When, Where, How

What applies to idler standards applies to many others:

1. Cannot substitute for good engineering.

2. For those who do not wish to think for themselves.

3. Contains one part wisdom and infinite parts for unconscience concerns

4. Science of yesterday

5. Conservation over matter (pun)

6. Standards are born to be changed - ergo change them.

Standards are only as good as the information on which they are based. Official bodies ( ISO, DIN, BS et al) have no knowledge in themselves, but just collate information from others who (claim to) have knowledge. Since the real knowledge resides with those who design, make and install equipment it begs the question if they provide their leading edge knowledge for dissemination to the world and his wife and so lose any competitive edge in the marketplace. And a standard ten years old is based on ten year old information, but knowledge moves on.

Standards were not not brought down from the mountain by Moses!

There is no Standard for idler pitches but there are Standards for their construction. They just keep rolling along, we hope!

CEMA is not a Standard & the recognised Standards do not specify the pitch. Belt manufacturers recommend pitch based on eg, carrying capacity whereas the idler manufacturers seem reluctant to do so.

It is imprudent to knock such confusion because we thrive on it.

Standards are indeed the science of yesterday..ask any Rocket Scientist.
