Difficult screening or separation problem

Separating product from rejects

Can anyone think of a solution to help one of my clients?

They produce calcined caustic magnesia in both shaft and rotary kilns and the products contain a mix of sizes, carbonate and oxide and the final rejects still contain up to 30% of oxide product.

The rotary kiln rejects are generally -30mm with most in the -15mm size range and the flow rate is only 250kgs per hour but it is a mixture of sometimes up to 50% saleable oxide.

The oxide is about 30% lighter weight than the carbonate, rubbish silica and dead burnt material and it crushes easily compared to the carbonate etc.

The reject stream comes from a rotary cooler and passes over a 5mm trommel screen where the bulk of the oxide is removed for roller milling.

The shaft kiln reject stream is a little more difficult in that it can have a range of particle sizes from 150mm down to dust all of which are dropped 5 metres from a one quarter tonne skip into an empty bin with a 40mm vibrating grizzley feeder. Some of the oxide particles and lumps of oxide do not break and about 30% of the grizzley reject is usable product.

Any suggestions at all will be most welcome and happy to discuss further.

Crush More?

Sorry, Do you need to crush more of the grizzly reject to make more saleable product?

Difficult Screening

George

We would like to separate or crush the 30% - 50% of the current reject screen which is good soft product without contaminating it with any of the 50% - 70% of the stream which is hard denser rubbish.

Crush Or Screen

possible solutions:

1. An inline LUMPBREAKER for soft material........to break up oversize which is soft and friable

2. More unlikely: BUT, if this was a wet process, we would use a DENSITY SEPARATOR.....to split fractions by specific gravity or weight differential.....

George

Where can I get more info on an inline soft lump breaker?

It sounds very interesting.

Look up on the web any company that basically has a full line of crushers.............coal crusher people should be able to help here.

There is a company I used to sell for........

gruendlercrusher.com that sold lumpbreakers but, I think that size may be too small for your job.

Thanks Simon

I am really looking for a piece of equipment that can separate or break the 50% of soft lumps and not the 50% of hard lumps.

The stream is 250 kgs/hr of -30mm +5mm

caustic magnesia.

With thanks

Mike.
