We in South Africa are also in the process of preparing a standard which not only involve idlers but conveyor pulley bearing centres diameters etc.
There is need for this world wide and we are very keen to assist anyone working innthis direction.
Kind regards.

While I believe our two organizations are already working together in similar projects (Belt Conveyors, Belt Driven Live Roller Conveyors, etc.), just in case; you might want to contact the Technical Commitee of the National Industrial Belting Association (NIBA) at Fax (262)707-7591.

In South Africa the standards are generally created by interaction between manufacturer and user groups and the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). The manufacturers, with regard to the material handling activities are represented by the Conveyor Manufacturers Association (CMA). Other parties generally involved are the mining houses (eg. Anglo American)and engineering institutions such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Materials Handling. The close association between users and manufacturers has resulted in an extensive idler standard SABS 1313.
I will gather contact details and forward them to you.

Dear Mr. Swinderman
I have read your post and would like to inform you that in Italy such item is cared by me and Mr. Bortolamasi Marco within the national standard body (UNI for Italy) and the technical commission 148 of CEN (the European body)where are 4 working groups over the 4 main items (I take care of the pneumatic transportation.
If you are interested UNI has just released 4 standards over the material classification depending on its rheological and bulk behaviour and the screw conveyors. Standards already exist for belt conveyors. Another item very interesting is the explosive atmospheres due to the presence of dust.
If you are interested over these subjects or want to know who is involved in other fileds feel free to contact me.
