Running a Roots Blowern on loading and unloading cycle

Posted in: , on 7. Jan. 2007 - 21:20

Dear Experts,

i have a three cell bag filter assembly with a bag filter at the top and then an upper dust collector and at last a lower dust collector with vacuum equallisation valves inbetween the upper and lower dust collectors and i have blowers for second stage conveying but i want to optimise the system as the blower remain running at full load even when there is no ash in the lower dust collector.

secondly is there any possibility of using some kind of ash vessel below the lower dust collector ( using the existing blowers only )as at present the ash is gravity falling into the " T " shaped ACI fitting below the lower dust collector and getting being conveyed directly with the blower air , this is causing a lot of pollution because of the pressure of the conveying air .

please note that i have no dump gate below the lower dust collector .

is there any option available for running a roots blower on loading and unloading cycle or using some air receiver arrangement for the roots blower, as i dont want to use the blower when there is no ash in the lower dust collector

with regards

Greetings Sachin,

If your fly ash equipment supplier is still an active bunsiness ask them if they can put in a laser level bin indicator to stop and start your blower.

If the above is not possible blowers are ment to run at full load for thousands of hours any way so it is not a real problem.

PD blowers of the roots type are quite good work horses and can be started and stopped within the heat capacity of the motor.

I'm not sur eI fully understand what you described but if it's what I tjhink, the system can be arranged with an ash transport vessel below your filter receiver which will transfer in a batch mode while the reveiver above continues to fillas long as you have adequate storage capacity. A dual pressure tank system can be used to continuously discharge the material while it's continuously being collected above.

DEAR SIR,

IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE A RECEIVER IN COMBINATION WITH A BLOWER WHERE THE DISCHARGE PRESSURE IS ONLY

1 KG/CM2 .

I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A COMBINATION OF ROOTS BLOWER , THREE CELL BAG FILTER ASSEMBLY, AIR RECEIVER AND ASH VESSEL .

THANKS AND REGARDS

Dear Sachin,

I have difficulty understanding your system from the description you have given. I will be glad to help you out if you post a simple PFD (Process Flow Diagram) here or send it to me to my email address.

Sachin

A three stage separation process used to be the standard approach all vacuum fly ash systems used.

First stage was a primary cyclone, then a secondary cyclone and finally a fabric filter.

Today, with the development of better technology, all power plants usually use a single unit with receiver in the bottom and fabric filter on top .

Some stoker fired industrial units may still use the old approach but not very often.

Roots type blower are used as the vacuum source.
